SIP Comparison Project — Institutional Wealth Analytics (2010–2026)
Empirical 16.6-year quantitative research engine & Power BI suite evaluating Active Equity Baskets vs Nifty 50 SIP across 201 monthly cycles.
The Concept
An institutional-grade quantitative backtesting and wealth comparison suite that tests the hypothesis: Does active stock selection systematically beat passive index investing (Nifty 50) over a long horizon? Engineered across 16.6 years (2010 to mid-2026) encompassing 201 systematic monthly SIP cycles, over 89,800 daily stock records, and 4,379 monthly transaction checkpoints. Built with a production Streamlit app and an enterprise Star Schema Power BI model (DAX, XIRR calculations, Maximum Drawdown analysis).
Signature Feature & Interactive Mechanics
• High-performance interactive Streamlit application with interactive Plotly compounding curves. • End-to-end star schema data pipeline processing 14 constituent equities across 4 thematic baskets. • Dynamic compounding & XIRR calculation engine modeling real-world rupee-cost averaging across bull, bear, and sideways regimes. • Enterprise Microsoft Power BI dashboard (`sip analytics.pbix`) with customized DAX measures for drawdown, CAGR, and volatility metrics.
Key Capabilities & UX Details
- 16.6-Year Backtesting Horizon (2010–2026) with 201 continuous monthly SIP execution cycles
- 4 Active Thematic Baskets vs Benchmark Nifty 50 (Titan, TCS, HDFC Bank, Reliance, etc.)
- Interactive Streamlit Frontend with real-time portfolio weights, cycle toggles, and Plotly charts
- Enterprise Star Schema Data Model with Fact & Dimension separation and DAX measures
- Risk-Adjusted Metrics Engine computing XIRR, CAGR, Sharpe approximation, and Peak-to-Trough Drawdowns
- Automated Uptime & Resilience with active keep-alive architecture
Design Identity & Execution
Managing multi-decade split-adjusted price adjustments and non-trading day alignment required robust forward-fill data pipelines. Modeling realistic XIRR rather than simple geometric CAGR provided the critical insight: while active baskets delivered higher absolute rupee corpus, passive index SIP demonstrated vastly superior downside resilience and lower portfolio churn during severe market pullbacks.
